FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

  • What are the costs?
A consultation with Cheree is without obligation and allows you to discuss your vision and budget. Some clients prefer a large-sized diamond, whereas others want a smaller-sized diamond with a superior cut and colour. The process is flexible, and through discussions, Cheree will create a unique piece within your budget.
  • How long will it take to make a bespoke piece of jewellery?
The bespoke process varies from client to client and design to design. The discovery phase is about learning your needs and wishes. During an initial discovery consultation – • Likes and dislikes will be discussed. • Inspirational images to help are welcomed. • Measurements, if necessary, will be taken. Cheree will source materials and stones if required and do a pencil sketch, a CAD drawing* or a printed wax model to help you visualise the result. *CAD is computer-aided design, providing a technical and rendered plan drawing. Once you are happy with your design, the manufacturing process takes approximately 4 to 8 weeks, subject to the complexity of the design. You will receive updates throughout. Please discuss deadlines or time-frames during the initial discovery chat, as Cheree will try to accommodate short lead times whenever possible.
  • What is the process once a CAD is complete?
A technical drawing using CAD is included in the quote. When you receive the technical drawing and render, one edit is included in the original quote for minor changes. Further changes cost $50 to $100, depending on the complexity. This process can be completed by email or face-to-face.
  • Do you know if I can use my stones and metal?
Cheree is passionate about making unique, beautifully crafted jewellery using recycled and sentimental materials. Stones Cheree will gain permission to remove gemstones or diamonds from settings if you wish to recycle a piece of jewellery. They are cleaned, weighed, and measured, and any broken or unsuitable stones are eliminated. Please be aware that there are times when people believe themselves to have a particular gemstone or diamond and are informed during this process that it is low-grade, treated, or synthetic. Cheree will always be transparent and discuss your options. Cheree has good relationships with ethical dealers if a gemstone is unsuitable for reuse and can source gemstones or diamonds on your behalf. Metal Cheree prefers to work with new metal to avoid contamination from solder, iron, and other impurities, which can lead to metal cracking and a less-than-perfect result. Cheree will have your metal refined, deducting a credit from the total price. If the metal is of high sentimental value, a solution such as keeping higher-risk old jewellery out of the reworking process can be considered. Please be aware that reworking white, rose, and lower-carat metals such as 9ct are the most difficult and are often best refined.
  • I don’t live locally; what can I do?
In this modern age, creating a bespoke design remotely is easier than ever. The discovery session can be done by phone, FaceTime or Skype. Sharing images, sketches, and renders can happen by email, a private Pinterest page or text message. Payments can be made via bank transfer, and delivery of your gift-wrapped order can be arranged. (Please see the FAQ page regarding shipping and postage).
  • Can I have a piece engraved?
Recording an important date or initials is possible on any piece of jewellery, and there are two main options for you to consider. If the jewellery is designed using CAD, the message can be written in your preferred font, with no additional time required. Alternatively, hand engraving can be arranged by a highly skilled jeweller offsite. Please allow 2-3 weeks for hand engraving. I'll make sure to send you a quote for you to look over.
