Shine Bright this Holiday Season with Our Rhodium Plating Sale

Do you ever gaze at your jewellery and feel like it's lost its lustre? Or maybe your white gold isn’t as white as it used to be? Perhaps it looks less white and more murky, grey and yellow?

Celebrate the end of 2023 with renewed sparkle and shine. Revive your jewellery with professional clean, polish, and rhodium plating.

White gold is a popular choice for jewellery due to its elegant appearance and durability. However, when you purchase it, it is usually plated with rhodium. Rhodium plating offers several benefits that go beyond just enhancing the appearance of the jewellery. Therefore, by opting for rhodium-plated white gold, you can not only treat yourself to an improved aesthetic but also ensure it lasts longer. Win-Win!

Durability: Rhodium provides a fine protective layer and is highly resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, which helps keep your jewellery looking new for longer.

Enhancing Gemstones: Rhodium plating can make gemstones appear more vibrant and colourful by reflecting light onto them, highlighting their natural beauty.

Hypoallergenic: Rhodium-plated white gold is often hypoallergenic, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Enhanced Aesthetic: Rhodium plating imparts a stunning, mirror-like finish to white gold jewellery, making it look even more radiant.

Curious about how your jewellery is rhodium plated?

Initially, jewellery is prepared for plating by removing scratches and is polished to a mirror finish. It is cleaned in an ultrasonic machine, which uses sound waves to agitate warm water with jewellery cleaning products that can get behind gemstones and into small gaps and remove all traces of dirt.

Large jewellery houses have big-scale rhodium plating stations. My rhodium plating set-up is similar to the pictorial below and consists of 3 different beakers of distilled water, electro-cleaning and rhodium solutions. (Courtesy of Pike Jewellery)

Before the plating process, the jewellery is dipped into an electro-cleaning solution to remove any grease that may have been missed by the ultrasonic cleaning. Then, it is rinsed with distilled water to eliminate any remnants of the electro-cleaning solution. Our goal is to ensure that the rhodium bonds to a clean surface without any impurities.

When handling the jewellery, I use tweezers to ensure that it is not contaminated. After that, it is dipped in the rhodium bath where the rhodium is electroplated onto the piece of jewelry. This process can be observed as small bubbles form on the jewellery. To ensure that the rhodium is evenly applied, I continue to agitate the jewellery during the process.

Lastly, it is immersed in distilled water to rinse off the rhodium solution. The result is a bright, shiny white finish.

The entire process can take up to 60 minutes.
